Tough Life of a Dreamer and a Network Engineer

Posted by | Posted in Home and Family, Shane Hale's Blog | Posted on 17-06-2013

Well another day has passed in my 38 years here on earth and it seems to never cease to amaze me how people can treat others the way they do especially children. Now more than ever people seem to be more into self justification and self righteousness. If we all just put ourselves in others shoes to help one another instead of put each other down, the world would be a better place.

Now more than ever, I am having to teach my daughter that people only are looking out for themselves and the only way to not be used up and washed out is to defend yourself and “don’t go all out” by helping others. Let’s see over past 3 years I got crapped out of business deals for software I have developed costing me over 200k forcing me to find keep in the workforce and find a higher paying job. Also de-friending a parent on Facebook for how they were talking to my wife.

Now more than ever I am realizing there are bigger things churning here. There are some changes that are having to be made now in order to achieve what I set out for.

Perseverance

Is my main goal.. To turn all this negative in a positive. I have decided to fire up my old business start back on some software and sell some of my old stuff. It is all a mindset really. A mind hack. I really don’t plan to just sit by and let the world get the best of me. This is what I want to teach my daughter the way to leave your mark on the world.

Goals

Being a Network Engineer in any field especially Healthcare you are always trying to prove yourself and the network. Why? It is always being blamed for everything. Not crappy written software or bad servers or the Layer 8 equation in between.

All this being said my goals are to improve my life, career and health this 38th year on earth. I want to teach my child Perseverance. I decided to sell a lot of blogs and domains and come back to this blog my very first on that purchased 10 years ago almost to the date! The goal is to blog daily about any damn thing I want daily and accomplish my own goals and fight my own inner demons.

Fathers Day 2013 – How to be a good father. Lessons learned..

Being a father, I have always wanted to do the best and provide for my family. Coming from a broken home, I really didn’t know my father until I was in my mid to late 20′s. Not until I met my wife and her family did I realize how important it is to be a awesome father. My father-law was a awesome man. I remember my wife telling me when I first met him not to be alarmed if he didn’t like me. (She was really worried about that.)

When I walked in I realized I was going to be myself not put on any charade and learn to be myself. That night we actually hit it off and became really good friends.. Over the years he would teach me how to appreciate the moments you have right now. Always support your kids but teach tough love because it will save them a lot of heart ache in the future when they get older. He taught me that being a father is one of the biggest responsibilities that a man can have.

My father in law was a true father to his kids and to me. He would spend every penny he had to make sure his kids were happy. Always with awesome stories to tell and share about his family. It was the memories he tried to create and paint when he was with his familiy. The outcome was a beautiful canvas! On this Fathers Day. Remember all the great times you had whether on a family vacation or out in the yard doing chores. Now, I look I my daughter and try to take the lessons learned from him and apply some of that to my own fathering skills.

Happy Birthday Ray and Happy Fathers day on the first year you will be without us but your legacy will not be forgotten and the lessons you taught us while you were here. We celebrate fathers like you on this day. You inspire me to be a great father!

Thoughts on Godaddy outage and how to better prevent your sites from going down.

Posted by | Posted in Information Technology, Internet Marketing, Shane Hale's Blog, Technology, Wordpress Help | Posted on 11-09-2012

Over the last couple of days Go Daddy has been attacked from a source/group called Anonymous. They took down many hosted DNS sites that GoDaddy was hosting in house.  Small business and big business owner alike suffered losing business and traffic to their sites.   The thoughts around GoDaddy is the fact that they should be held responsible for their security.  The hacker/cracker did exploit this and take a lot of stuff down but, one thing that people should do is always think about security.  The best way to start when creating a website is to diversify and back up.

Never keep your DNS and web hosting on the same server.  You should always transfer and host your own DNS.  That way no one ever has total control over your Zone files. Then always back up your WordPress to another backup site and your billing/accounting to another site as well.  Set up cronjobs or send the backups at different times of the week and day.

Now could Godaddy help the breach?  Who knows, no one really knows how the attacker got in.  But, mitigating SQL buffer overflows or DOS attacks can be done with strict policy.  The old saying is nothing is every totally 100% secure and most breaches are caused by a user from the inside leaving something open or downloading something to open a hole to the network.

The biggest piece to this will be how SOPA and PIPA laws come into play.  Pirate bay has already been censored by Google and soon more emphasis will be placed on Big companies like godaddy and Google to protect their digital assets along with the customers private data they hold.  There will be so many other Anonymous’s out there to watch out for.  But, the best protection is starting with the place between the keyboard and the chair.

In my mind

The mind is a powerful thing, over the past couple of weeks I have grown to appreciate our mind and how it percieves ourself and others.

Makes you wonder about reality and how others percieve you. I really think we need to appreciate life and perception.

Just think what can happen if you put your mind to things and avoid negativity.

Join the Reboot -Day 2 Journal

Posted by | Posted in Health and Fitness, Shane Hale's Blog | Posted on 07-08-2012

Starting a new day, I figured out that it is ok just to eat raw vegetables and not to starve yourself.  I think when you are very hungry you will be more apt to eat junk when tempted.  So I rather record the bad and the good.  It is a mental mindset in order to do this.  I remember when I tried to quit smoking it took several attempts to get it right once you get through the initial detox and withdrawal symptoms  it can be pretty easy from here on out.  So I really want to just juice only fast but may turn it to a raw vegan only.  I really just need to cut out bad foods that you crave the most.   Anyway, this is a start of a new day I will let you know how it turns out.

But,since it was my birthday I failed when I came home hungry as hell. We collectively decided to order a pizza which blew my work all day out of water. I will not give up going to start back tomorrow. I really need to work on the will power!

Rebooting Myself and wanting to help others.

One thing you should always be trying to do until the day you die is working on always improving. The biggest enemy is complacency. When you become comfortable with your surroundings to the point where you try not to improve or totally rely on others to do things for you that eventually creates complacency. I think the number one reason for failure today is people becoming too reliant on others and not thinking they can achieve things for themselves.

Recently, I was not very happy with my current business and job and decided to just change everything. Now that I have done that, it is like huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I deleted a email list that I used to use with over 1000 subscribers and told them I was going to delete them and that not only did I fail them but it would be the best to part ways. I left the option open to join the new list for people who wanted to keep up with me and my next greatest endeavors. Also, I pretty much trimmed all the fat of my business turned down many sites and stopped taking offline clients.

I resorted by to my very first blog and domain which is this one. I bought this domain over 10 + years ago and let it expire a time or 2 along the way. But, I always felt comfortable here and making posts. My business now will be solely focused on putting great technical content out there and helping others understand the I.T world as well as let them learn from the mistakes that I made along the way.

There was a movie out awhile ago with Will Ferrell about him being a Pee Wee Soccer coach that was jacked up on Expresso and was teaching his team all the wrong things they needed to do in order to win a game. In the long run, they never one a single game with that strategy until the end when he told them to just get out there and have fun realizing that he was neglecting his loved ones. He also told his team to do exactly the opposite of what he taught them. Well, I guess the moral of this is I am going to teach by the mistakes I have made to help other avoid making the same in their online business as well as help people understand more about their business technically and at least have some self reliance to know how to tell a outsourced job worker what needs to be done or not be taken by someone trying to rip you off.

In summary, you need to get out and upset the normal routine and make some changes that will help accomplish your goals and that is where I am at in my life. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday and gets off to a wonderful start.

BinaryBurn’s Free CCNA and other Information Technology Certification Study Guides

Posted by | Posted in Information Technology, Network Engineering, Network Security, Shane Hale's Blog, Technology | Posted on 23-07-2012

So, you are studying for a CCNA or other certification guide and maybe don’t want to pay the Fees at How2PASS.com or you are studying for something else.  I have found the 5 best methods for free studying.  This is a short post but a very effective post to study most technology certifications.

www.sadikhov.com             Forums very nice

www.9tut.com                      Nice exam site free

http://www.gns3-labs.com/what-is-gns3/                   Nice simulator to test

http://www.examcollection.com/                         Nice cert dump site for studying.

Search Sadikhov.com forums for Visual cert engine software so you can upload cert files from examcollection.com to take practice tests

Also, join https://learningnetwork.cisco.com   very nice place as well.  These sites help you understand what questions are being asked for most certifications.  The Sadikhov forums are awesome to explore and get in touch with people who are studying for the same stuff you maybe studying for.  Also, the best paid site (if you want to pay) is How2PASS.com they combine both the simulators and questions so you don’t really have to use GNS3 at all since it is all combine.  How2PASS is mainly Cisco only certifications right now.  So far I am using these sites to re-certify CCNA and study for CCNP and eventually CCIE. Stay tuned for more helpful hints.

Internet marketing 2012 a Year in Review

Posted by | Posted in Internet Marketing, Shane Hale's Blog, Technology | Posted on 21-07-2012

So it has been a crazy year for me and it seems a lot of internet marketers out there.  I wanted to really talk about some of the legit marketers out there and who you need to listen to for a point of authority.  BinaryBurn is going  start dedicating a post a week for internet marketing Tips or making money online.  In 2006, I decided to look more into business models and entrepreneurship after reading the Rich Dad Poor Dad Book.  Over those years my goal was to research who the major players in internet marketing were and the ones who were just replicating and ripping people off.  Also there were some who would hop to one marketer and use them and their resources just to get to another bigger marketer they knew was connected to the one they were using.  ”Marketer hopping” is what I like to call it.

Over those years I was able to come in contact with many marketers who made legit millions and some who I saw create Fortune 500 and 100 companies from scratch.  It was awesome to watch these marketers transform their images to make millions.  So while in the process I created a information product that did thousands of dollars,(which was a test) just to see if I could really make some cash online.  In the long run, I would buy and try business blueprints that other marketers stated they use to make money online.  I would try them and document them in a info product.

This continued for several years until I got burned by some so called Marketers who took a plugin of mine and pretty much bundled it with some other ideas we talked about and used it to his advantage.  This individual went on to make close to a half of million dollars with another major player in the marketing world.  If you haven’t been in internet marketing or had the luxury of dealing with other marketers, let me enlighten you on how to become broke very quickly.

Don’t join a mastermind group or reveal too much of your ideas.  In this business it is really good to keep you inner ideas to yourself or you will become mentally bankrupt and burned out.  Most Marketers are out for themselves or if they want to be a part of your business  it is because you have a big email list or convert a metric shit ton of traffic.

One thing, I really want to do is reveal the people I think have created a smart and honest business plan to make a legitimate amount of money online. ( Next week, I will reveal my very first marketer I think is probably the best and most honest marketer to follow so stay tuned  for next weeks blog post.)

So what happened to me?

2011 -2012ish I had to change somethings.  I went ahead and left my Telecommunications job working in a Network Operations Center to pursue a job as a Network Engineer II job for a major Hospital nearby.  Reason being, I have always kept a full-time job to supplement my income from internet marketing.  (YES, I am a internet marketer with a Full time job!)  This reason was simple I love technology and everything that has to do with Information Technology.  Back in early 90′s I used to subscribe to 2600 magazine and was really into the hacker scene on IRC .  This is where I got my start to learning about networking and computer security.

Computer Security is one of my up most passions. Ever since the movie “War Games” I have been totally addicted.  I realized after talking to many Marketers on Skype the consensus was do what you love.   After switching  jobs, I was came down with double pneumonia and felt closer to death than I have ever felt.  So internet marketing just went down hill from there.  I had to step out for quite awhile.  I removed most of my intellectual property online and kept some businesses such as web hosting and other sites that still generated a bit of income.   Now this year the only place I will focus is this blog and combine all my personal likes and dislikes in this blog.

I still love the internet marketing scene and the people I have met through the Warrior Forum and other places.  But, a personal blog is a place you can go and just talk about stuff you are interested in and share your opinions and ideas.    That being said stay tuned for more on this topic and plenty of others every week!

Honda Accord Best Car Ever even without Oil

Posted by | Posted in Automotive, Shane Hale's Blog | Posted on 18-07-2012

Rocker Arm Stuck on

The other day I was driving and started to notice that my 2005 Honda accord was slowing  down throttling and “bucking” when I accelerated.  I had recently just changed the oil at a local shop and did not think it was running low on oil.  After that afternoon the car was about to die to the point of wanting to cut off completely. I even noticed a slight rattle going on when I was accelerating.

Since the car had been paid off and was older, I was dreading  the fact that with 160k worth of miles in the car was about to cost me a tremendous amount of money. However after visiting the nearest Advance Auto shop and getting them to check my engine light code.  One thing that came back on the tester was “Rocker Arm Stuck on”  Then another thing stating “VTS System on” .

After Go-ogling around I seemed to notice that my symptoms as close to the Catalytic Converter going bad it seem to point to oil levels.   I went outside and checked my oil levels to find out I had a dry oil dip stick. WTF?  So I got into another car and traveled back to Advanced Auto and bought 4 quarts of 5w 20 came back and loaded into the Honda with my fingers crossed thinking I have probably torched this poor engine.

Let the car run for a few minutes and drove down the street noticing the rattle had gone and my car acceleration problem resolved.   Moral to this story will be check your oil when you fuel up.   But, this goes to show you how resilient the Honda Accord really is. I swear that this has probably been the toughest and most reliable car I have ever driven.  Well this is my useful/useless post for today!
