How Do You Make Your Own Website?

New York Times To Start Charging For Online Content in 2011

The more main stream the internet becomes in the business world, the more businesses and individuals want to try and establish an online presence.  This brings about tons of questions like “How do you make your own web site?”.   So I decided to write a article on the steps you would want to take to establish an online presences and market you and your business to digital stardom.

What route to take for Website design.

Some of the factors you would want to weigh in would be: hiring a web designer,do it yourself and web design software.   Those top 3 would be the core questions on whether or not to start your own website or blog.  I have consulted many people on which route to take and this is totally up to you and your preferences.   If you are a busy person who can’t take the time to do it yourself, you would probably want to hire a web designer.  Usually, this could range any where between $150-3000 dollars total depending on what you are wanting.  Most sites that have 5 static pages usually go for about $300 to $500 and the ecommerce sites get up to about $3000.00

Outsourcing Pro’s and Con’s – Getting the Job done

One of the better hidden secrets, is places like guru.com and rentacoder.com.  These places you can get cheap work done for a low cost;the only problem is sometimes you maybe dealing with someone overseas and the language barrier at times can get frustrating especially if you are trying to explain what you want done.   I myself show people who are at least familiar with basic html or understand the lingo to broker a deal how to make money off of this feature in my Recession Busters ebook.

Doing it Yourself – What should I do?

Definitley, the most logical cost saving route would be do it yourself.  But, (What should you do?); Not knowing html to the fullest can be detrimental to your business image.  The best software I use comes in to different forms.  Those would be website design software such as Adobe Dreamweaver,Xsite Pro which is the best for the money. Sometimes the complexity of Dreamweaver can scare people away, there are tons of documentation on how to build and edit with Dreamweaver but, overall it can be overwhelming for a beginner.

Xsite Pro is a pretty neat piece of software for building websites that I was turned on to a while back ago and heavily promote it because of the simplicity and ease. If you can type a word document or email you can pretty much navigate through this software with ease.  I recently got XSite Pro 2 and it was pretty easy to figure out. With preloaded templates such as sales pages and even graphical sites for any type of genre or niche business. All you really need to do is type out the information you want on each page.

Xsite Pro also delivers e commerce plug-ins along with site back ups and creates important things such as site maps and Google adsense ads for you once you input the write data and hit publish.  Along with both Xsite Pro and Dreamweaver offer it’s own built in FTP (File Transfer protocol) software. These types of software are very helpful when creating websites especially when you are doing static types of pages. That leads us to the next question…

Static or Dynamic?

Static or Dynamic Design, which one is the right one? Well, it can be a hard decision for most especially not know where to begin when making your website.  So, what is the difference between the both?  Static relates to pages that once they are created have to be manually changed with software or by rewriting the code.  This is where software like Xsite Pro or Dreamweaver come into play.  Usually, people can edit these with ease with the use of these types of software.

Dynamic can be the way to go especially lately, business getting blogs and setting them up using Blogtactics or other types of tactics to get their page immediately ranks in Google or any other search engines can prove to be Golden.  Most  web hosting companies like Hostgator or HostDime provide a popular plug-in with one touch installation called Cpanel featuring Fantastico. Once the site is uploaded you can install niche related themes or have someone make some for you at a place like rentacoder.com.

The beautiful thing about dynamic, is you can change your content or add new web pages, you can post changes or updates relatively with ease; once it is setup.  Also, it is very resilient and flexible with changes that are made.  The most common installations are Wordpress and Joomla.  Wordpress is more in the blogging category,(Which is what I use); Joomla is called a content management system and has some pretty decent and flexible features as well but not as user friendly as Wordpress.

Drawing out a plan

When learning to make your own website, you really want to layout a plan or what I like to put on paper basically a site map.  Pretend that the web site if a book or short book with pages.  Each page, is related to it’s own content whether it be about you type of information or how to contact you. These pages, are interconnected together via a menu and you want to be able to interlink these with some sort of flow.

This flow I like to draw on paper in a tree list format.  When you lable one page and what it should be about and show how it will connect to another page and have it all on paper it provide a digital blue print and makes it so much easier when you are designing your first website.

WebSites and Web Pages the Difference

Another misconception I hope I cleared up is the difference between web pages and websites.  Sites are made up of  many different pages.  A lot of people when talking to a designer or talking to others about designing websites tend to mix the two up.    So when you are deciding to make your own website, it is my recommendation to use Wordpress for dynamic and Xsite Pro for static sites.

Antivirus Live Removal Free Instructions

Posted by | Posted in Technology | Posted on 13-01-2010

This Virus is a complete bitch to remove. Reason being it looks like a Virus Scanner. I have found the best way to do this is to boot up in safe mode and hit F8 key while booting and use choose Windows Safe mode.  Then go to run and type “regedit” and delete the registry entries listed below.

Then run quick scan for Malaware also download free avg virus scan if you don’t have it yet.

What this programs does:

Antivirus Live is a rogue anti-spyware and ransomware program from the same family as Antivirus System Pro. This infection is installed on your computer through Trojans that install it automatically without your permission. Once installed, Antivirus Live will be configured to start automatically when Windows starts. Once running it will scan your computer and display numerous infections, but will state it will not remove them until you purchase the program. In reality, the scan results it detects are all fake and do not actually exist on your computer.

This program is also very aggressive in how it protects itself from being removed. While the Antivirus Live process is running it will terminate almost all programs that you launch stating that they are infected. It will also change the Proxy settings in Internet Explorer so that you can not browse to any site other than the Antivirus Live site so that you can purchase the program. Using these two methods, the program essentially ransoms the normal use of your computer until you purchase the program or use the guide below to remove the infection.

Antivirus Live screen shot
Antivirus Live screen shot
For more screen shots of this infection click on the image above.
There are a total of 7 images you can view.

While Antivirus Live is running you will also see numerous security warnings, alerts, and windows appear that try to convince you that you are infected. For example, you will be shown a window that impersonates the legitimate Windows Security Center. The difference is that the infection’s version will suggest that you purchase Antivirus Live, while the legitimate version does not suggest any particular program. The infection will also show numerous alerts stating that your computer is infected, sending sensitive data to the Internet, or being attacked by remote connections. Just like the fake scan results, these alerts are just another method that the program is trying to convince you that you have a security problem and should be ignored.

As you can see, Antivirus Live was created with one purpose in mind; to scam you out of your money by making you think your computer is infected. It goes without saying that you should not purchase this program, and if you already have, please contact your credit card company and dispute the charges stating the program is a scam. Finally, to remove this infection please use the free removal guide below.

12/07/09 – Initial guide creation.

Automated Removal Instructions for Antivirus Live using Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware:

  1. Print out these instructions as we may need to close every window that is open later in the fix.
  2. It is possible that the infection you are trying to remove will not allow you to download files on the infected computer. If you run into this problem when following the steps in this guide you will need to download the files requested in this guide on another computer and then transfer them to the infected computer. You can transfer the files via a CD/DVD, external drive, or USB flash drive.
  3. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode with Networking using the instructions for your version of Windows found in the following tutorial:

How to start Windows in Safe Mode

When following the steps in the above tutorial, select Safe Mode with Networking rather than just Safe Mode. When the computer reboots into Safe Mode with Networking make sure you login with the username you normally use. When you are at your Windows desktop, please continue with the rest of the steps.

  4. This infection changes your Internet Explorer settings to use a proxy server that will not allow you to browse any pages on the Internet. Therefore, if you only have Internet Explorer installed, we will first need need to fix this problem so that we can download the utilities we need to remove this infection. If you already have another browser installed, then you can skip to step 8 to proceed with the removal instructions. I still advise that you do all of these steps so that Internet Explorer works as well. Please start Internet Explorer, and when the program is open, click on the Tools menu and then select Internet Options as shown in the image below.
    Internet Explorer Tools Menu

  5. You should now be in the Internet Options screen as shown in the image below.
    Internet Options screen

Now click on the Connections tab as designated by the blue arrow above.

  6. You will now be at the Connections tab as shown by the image below.
    Internet Options connections tab

Now click on the Lan Settings button as designated by the blue arrow above.

  7. You will now be at the Local Area Network (LAN) settings screen as shown by the image below.
    Proxy Settings screen

Under the Proxy Server section, please uncheck the checkbox labeled Use a proxy server for your LAN. Then press the OK button to close this screen. Then press the OK button to close the Internet Options screen. Now that you have disabled the proxy server you will be able to browse the web again with Internet Explorer.

  8. Now we must end the processes that belong to Antivirus Live so that it does not interfere with the cleaning procedure. To do this, download the following file to your desktop.rkill.com Download Link

If you are unable to connect to the site to download rkill, please go back and do steps 3-6 again and make sure the infection has not reenabled the proxy settings. You may have to do this quite a few times before you can get the rkill.com file downloaded. If you still cannot download the rkill.com program on the infected computer, you should download it to a clean computer and copy it to the infected one via a USB flash drive or CDROM.

  9. Once it is downloaded, double-click on the rkill.com in order to automatically attempt to stop any processes associated with Antivirus Live and other Rogue programs. Please be patient while the program looks for various malware programs and ends them. When it has finished, the black window will automatically close and you can continue with the next step. If you get a message that rkill is an infection, do not be concerned. This message is just a fake warning given by Antivirus Live when it terminates programs that may potentially remove it. If you run into these infections warnings that close Rkill, a trick is to leave the warning on the screen and then run Rkill again. By not closing the warning, this typically will allow you to bypass the malware trying to protect itself so that rkill can terminate Antivirus Live . So, please try running Rkill until malware is no longer running. You will then be able to proceed with the rest of the guide. Do not reboot your computer after running rkill as the malware programs will start again.
  10. Now you should download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, or MBAM, from the following location and save it to your desktop:Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware Download Link

If you are unable to connect to the site to download Malwarebytes’, please go back and do steps 3-6 again and make sure the infection has not reenabled the proxy settings.

  11. Once downloaded, close all programs and Windows on your computer, including this one.
  12. Double-click on the icon on your desktop named mbam-setup.exe. This will start the installation of MBAM onto your computer.
  13. When the installation begins, keep following the prompts in order to continue with the installation process. Do not make any changes to default settings and when the program has finished installing, make sure you leave both the Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware checked. Then click on the Finish button. If MalwareBytes’ prompts you to reboot, please do not do so.
  14. MBAM will now automatically start and you will see a message stating that you should update the program before performing a scan. As MBAM will automatically update itself after the install, you can press the OK button to close that box and you will now be at the main program as shown below.
    MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Screen
  15. On the Scanner tab, make sure the the Perform full scan option is selected and then click on the Scan button to start scanning your computer for Antivirus Live related files.
  16. MBAM will now start scanning your computer for malware. This process can take quite a while, so we suggest you go and do something else and periodically check on the status of the scan. When MBAM is scanning it will look like the image below.
    MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Scanning Screen
  17. When the scan is finished a message box will appear as shown in the image below.
    MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Scan Finished Screen

You should click on the OK button to close the message box and continue with the AntivirusLive removal process.

  18. You will now be back at the main Scanner screen. At this point you should click on the Show Results button.
  19. A screen displaying all the malware that the program found will be shown as seen in the image below. Please note that the infections found may be different than what is shown in the image.
    MalwareBytes Scan Results

You should now click on the Remove Selected button to remove all the listed malware. MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the programs quarantine. When removing the files, MBAM may require a reboot in order to remove some of them. If it displays a message stating that it needs to reboot, please allow it to do so. Once your computer has rebooted, and you are logged in, please continue with the rest of the steps.

  20. When MBAM has finished removing the malware, it will open the scan log and display it in Notepad. Review the log as desired, and then close the Notepad window.
  21. You can now exit the MBAM program.

Your computer should now be free of the AntivirusLive program. You may want to consider purchasing the PRO version of Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware to protect against these types of threats in the future, as if you had the real-time protection component, that comes with the paid for version, activated it would not have allowed this infection to install.

If you are still having problems with your computer after completing these instructions, then please follow the steps outlined in the topic linked below:

Google may leave China in wake of hacker attacks

Posted by | Posted in Technology | Posted on 13-01-2010

2008 Google Winter Marketing Forum In Xian

In a rare corporate rebuke of Asia’s economic superpower, Google Inc. on Tuesday said it might leave China and the country’s 350 million Internet users after it was the victim of a series of cyber attacks that originated from that nation.

Google-China

According to Google, a “highly sophisticated” December attack on its main corporate computers resulted in “the theft of intellectual property.”

<!– wp_ad_camp_2 –>

The company said it believed that a key goal of the attackers was to access the e-mail accounts of Chinese human rights activists, raising the possibility that China’s government not only may have hacked in to Google but also may have been using the company’s network to conduct political espionage.

“These attacks and the surveillance they have uncovered — combined with the attempts over the past year to further limit free speech on the Web — have led us to conclude that we should review the feasibility of our business operations in China,” said Google’s chief legal officer, David Drummond, in a blog post titled “A new approach to China.”

As part of the review, Google said it planned to end its practice of censoring search results in China. For years, Google has acquiesced to Chinese officials’ wishes by blocking access to information on politically sensitive topics such as the 1989 student uprising in Tiananmen Square.

The company said that over the next several weeks it would try to find a way to operate an uncensored search engine in China, if Chinese authorities approved.

If not, Google said it might pull the plug on its operations there.

“We recognize that this may well mean having to shut down Google.cn, and potentially our offices in China,” Drummond said.

Although Google has portrayed its threats to leave China as a humanitarian move, some analysts said the company might be reacting more to the damage it sustained from the security breach. One of the Internet giant’s most precious assets has been the perception that it can unfailingly protect the e-mails, documents and online habits of its hundreds of millions of users.

Chinese officials couldn’t be reached for comment, but in the past the government has defended its strict Internet policy and refuted accusations that it is responsible for cyber attacks.

Google has long had a rocky relationship with China, where censorship and marketing limitations have held it to a distant second behind China’s leading search engine, Baidu.com, which accounts for more than 60% of the market.

“If your two corporate mottoes are ‘Don’t be evil’ and ‘Organize the world’s information,’ you are bound to have trouble in China,” said Steve Weber, a political science professor at UC Berkeley. Still, he said, the choice to leave an emerging market the size of China could not be an easy one for Google.

Google officials said that the immediate financial effects would be “immaterial,” with China sales accounting for only a fraction of its $22 billion in annual revenue. But long-term prospects are considered huge for a country that may soon have a billion users of mobile phones and the Internet.

“This is the hardest decision any big global company has to make,” Weber said.

Indeed, it has taken a serious attack like the one last month to motivate Google to rethink its position in China, analysts said.

“For [Google] to really come to the conclusion that they needed to pull up stakes in China, this attack must have gone to the core,” said James Mulvenon, an expert on Chinese cyber warfare with Defense Group Inc.

The company said it was still investigating the breach and would not provide details on the nature of the intellectual property that was stolen.

Public interest groups lauded Google’s move to stop censoring search results.

China tightened its grip on the Internet last year, launching a war on pornography and illegal downloading that produced thousands of arrests and closed hundreds of websites. Many popular foreign sites such as Facebook and YouTube have been blocked by the so-called Great Firewall for months.

“While Google should never have agreed to censor search results in China in the first place, it is doing the right thing by ending the practice now,” said John Simpson of Consumer Watchdog.

Windstream to Acquire NuVox

Posted by | Posted in Technology | Posted on 03-11-2009

Well another merger in telecom and it is actually the company I work for we will see how it goes. Everyone knows that with mergers and acquisitions comes layoffs. Due to overlapping departments and having to streamline to be cost effective.

So as scary it may be during this time there is always opportunities in a ever changing business market. I used to be horrified when things like this happened but when you have been working in the telecom business for 10 + years job insecurity becomes a reality.

As I will wait out this merger to see if I will have a job or not. And not know the details there is no need to be worried or scared. This is business. Nothing in today’s economy is secure anymore. I have enjoyed my career so far and always strive to better myself and my family. Mergers in telecommunications, the fact is that they provide change in the corporate world sometimes for the better.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.–(Business Wire)–
Windstream Corporation (NYSE: WIN) announced today that it has entered into a

exchange carrier based in Greenville, S.C., in a transaction valued at
approximately $643 million.

Windstream also will assume estimated net debt of approximately $180 million.
Windstream intends to finance the acquisition with existing cash and current
capacity on its revolving credit agreement.

“This transaction significantly advances our strategy to grow broadband and

Windstream estimates the transaction will be accretive to free cash flow after
expected annual synergies of approximately $30 million in operating expenses and
capital expenditure savings.

The boards of both companies have approved the transaction, which is expected to
close in the first half of 2010, subject to certain conditions, including
necessary approvals from federal and state regulators.

in 16 contiguous Southeastern and Midwestern states. The company offers advanced
IP-based voice and data services to approximately 90,000 business customers. The

exchange properties after the transaction closes.

FREE PALM PRE

Posted by | Posted in Technology | Posted on 01-10-2009

As you all know I have been posting a ton of pictures from my new Palm Pre. If is really a great phone and I plan adding another video to this post showing some of the apps. There is soo much you can do with this phone that you can do with the Iphone. It runs a Linux OS called Web OS. You can even use WIFI and use it as a WIFI hotspot.  I unlocked mine over at PreCentral’s web site to do tethering so you can get about 2 gig download speed on a laptop using a Bluetooth Tethering connection.

FACEBOOK BUYS/ACQUIRES FRIENDFEED

Posted by | Posted in Technology | Posted on 10-08-2009

A nice aquisition has came about according to the latest buzz on the internet.

Facebook Agrees to Acquire Sharing Service FriendFeed

Facebook today announced that it has agreed to acquire FriendFeed, the innovative service for sharing online. As part of the agreement, all FriendFeed employees will join Facebook and FriendFeed’s four founders will hold senior roles on Facebook’s engineering and product teams.

“Facebook and FriendFeed share a common vision of giving people tools to share and connect with their friends,” said Bret Taylor, a FriendFeed co-founder and, previously, the group product manager who launched Google Maps (Google Maps). “We can’t wait to join the team and bring many of the innovations we’ve developed at FriendFeed to Facebook’s 250 million users around the world.”

“As we spent time with Mark and his leadership team, we were impressed by the open, creative culture they’ve built and their desire to have us contribute to it,” said Paul Buchheit, another FriendFeed co-founder. Buchheit, the Google (Google) engineer behind Gmail (Gmail) and the originator of Google’s “Don’t be evil” motto, added, “It was immediately obvious to us how passionate Facebook’s engineers are about creating simple, ground-breaking ways for people to share, and we are extremely excited to join such a like-minded group.”

Taylor and Buchheit founded FriendFeed along with Jim Norris and Sanjeev Singh in October 2007 after all four played key roles at Google for products like Gmail and Google Maps. At FriendFeed, they’ve brought together a world-class team of engineers and designers.

“Since I first tried FriendFeed, I’ve admired their team for creating such a simple and elegant service for people to share information,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO. “As this shows, our culture continues to make Facebook a place where the best engineers come to build things quickly that lots of people will use.”

FriendFeed is based in Mountain View, Calif. and has 12 employees. FriendFeed.com will continue to operate normally for the time being as the teams determine the longer term plans for the product.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not released.

HostDime Review-Dedicated Webserver Hosting

Posted by | Posted in Technology | Posted on 08-08-2009

Hello, Shane Hale here and I wanted to give my personal opinion on my Web Host

Host dime has been my web host over 6 years and it keeps on going.  I have even once tried to leave to go to another host like HostGator and many more but found out Host Dime fought for my business.  They provide one on one support at a low cost.  I have had times where my sites were down but I was always reimbursed for my time being down. Which is understandable due to the fact that hardware will fail from time to time.

The coolest thing is their Resell account you can host many domains and email on a resell for as low as $30.00 a month which is phenomenal. If anyone is considering a better alternative in web hosting I would have to say that HostDime is one of the best hosts out there.

Here is some of their highlights

40 GB Disk Space
3000 GB of Bandwidth
Unlimited Domains

$30.00 / Month
