A blog is one of the most overlooked things that almost 90% of marketers tell you need. I have narrowed this down to 3 types of blogs and how to set them up. A blog can help generate massive traffic via RSS pings and targeted keyword posts. They tend to index very quickly and generate a ton of traffic.

A ton of people don’t really tell you the correct ways to setup a blog,so this usually leads to no where and wondering why you are not getting traffic.

Wordpress is the most common blog everyone uses. Here are 5 ways to set up a blog properly using Wordpress.

5 Tips for a Better Blog

1. Make sure you permalinks post settings are set to show the description of the keywords in the URL. This is so important!! Most Wordpress Blogs I see today have URLs that look like [www.domain.com /index.php?P=12 ] or something like that.
You need it to show
[www.domain.com /index.php/2009/My-keyword-targetted-post/ ]

2. Make sure you are set up to ping your RSS feeds. If you don’t know how you can take your recent post URL and go to http://pingomatic.com/

3. Make sure your Tags and Categories are not the same. Google will look at this as duplicate content and it could affect your ranking.

4. If you have related posts anchor text them together via a linking keyword to promote internal linking. This can be as affective as backlinks to your site in Google eyes.

5. A must have. There are plug ins for Google Sitemaps that updates via cron job. Make sure your get this one! You always need a site map and contact or about us page. As well, if you are collecting email or selling items you need a Privacy Policy and a Earnings and Disclaimer page.

If you do those 5 steps I guarantee you will see some improvements in your site traffic.
